With Panthers eliminated, Lightning will face Islanders in Round 2

With the New York Islanders eliminating the Florida Panthers in Round one of the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Tampa Bay Lightning will face the New York Islanders in Round 2.

The Lightning defeated the Red Wings in their Round 1 series, and will continue their Stanley Cup Playoff campaign against the Islanders with the hopes of making the Stanley Cup Finals for the second-straight season.

Panthers lose to Islanders, unable to notch series lead

Despite goals from Jussi Jokinen, Teddy Purcell, and two goals from Reilly Smith, the Florida Panthers were unable to defeat thee New YORK Islanders on Thursday night and failed to take a 1-0 series lead in the first round series.

Roberto Luongo made 21 saves for the Panthers, while Thomas Greiss made 42 saves for the Islanders.

John Tavares, Brock Nelson, Frans Nielsen, Ryan Strome and Kyle Okposo scored for the Islanders.

The Panthers outshot the Islanders 46-26.

Game two of the series is on Friday at 7:30pm ET.

Lightning defeat Red Wings 3-2 in playoff opener

The Tampa Bay Lightning opened up their 2016 playoff campaign with a successful 3-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings.

Nikita Kucherov (2) and Alex Killorn scored for the Lightning, while Justin Abdelkader and Mike Green scored for the Red Wings.

The Lightning now have a 1-0 series lead in the round one series.

Lightning, Panthers ready to battle in playoffs

The Tampa Bay Lightning and the Florida Panthers are
preparing for the 2016 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, which
starts Wednesday.

The Tampa Bay Lightning and the Florida Panthers have both made the 2016 playoffs, and both will look to advance through the rounds with the hopes of clinching the Stanley Cup.

The Lightning's round one series against the Detroit Red Wings begins on Wednesday, while the Panthers' round one matchup against the New York Islanders begins on Thursday.

"[Last year] showed us the grind of the playoffs & how hard it is," Lightning forward Ryan Callahan said on Tuesday. "You can relate back to that.

Lightning goaltender Ben Bishop believes that the Red Wings are going to want revenge for their playoff defeat against the Lightning last season.

"We eliminated them last year and they're going to have that in the back of their minds," Bishop said on Tuesday.

Florida Panthers forward Jaromir Jagr is excited to be back in the playoffs.


"Of course it's exciting," Jagr said on Wednesday. "We've been working all year for this."
