MIAMI – The Miami Marlins on Friday optioned starting pitcher Justin Nicolino to Triple-A New Orleans and selected the contract of catcher Tomas Telis from New Orleans. Left-handed pitcher Eric Jokisch, who was designated for assignment on Wednesday, was outrighted to Double-A Jacksonville.
Nicolino went 0-1 while surrendering eight earned runs on 11 hits over nine total innings since being recalled from New Orleans on July 1. On June 19, the left-hander was optioned to Triple-A after he was 2-4 with a 5.17 ERA in his first 10 starts this season with Miami.
The Marlins begin a three-game series homestand against the Cincinnati Reds on Friday at 7:10pm ET before the 2016 MLB All-Star break.
