MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Andrew Wiggins scored 27 points and Ricky Rubio made a career-high six 3-pointers to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 111-105 victory in overtime over the Orlando Magic on Monday night.
Karl-Anthony Towns had 23 points and 12 rebounds, Rubio added 22 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, and Wiggins forced overtime with a jumper with 10 seconds to play to help the Wolves win for the eighth time in 11 games.
Elfrid Payton scored 21 points and Serge Ibaka had 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Magic, who came back from nine points down with five minutes to play to take the lead late in regulation. Evan Fournier scored nine points in 23 minutes in his first game since Jan. 13.
Rubio came into the game shooting a ghastly 24 percent from deep. But he went 6 for 9 on Monday night, including three in a row in the third quarter to get the sparse crowd on its feet. Shabazz Muhammad ended the quarter with a shot from halfcourt to give Minnesota an 80-79 lead, and the bench scorer put up a 3 monocle as a swaggered back to the bench.
Rubio's sixth 3 splashed through from the corner, giving Minnesota a 94-85 lead with under 5 minutes to play. But Ibaka scored on a layup, C.J. Watson turned a bad pass from Wiggins into a 3 and Towns was whistled for a travel to give the Magic new life.
Aaron Gordon's three-point play with 50 seconds to go put the Magic up 98-96, but after Wiggins tied it with a tough pull-up jumper, Payton missed a stepback 3 at the buzzer to send it to overtime.
Towns and Wiggins started the extra period with dunks and Wiggins also blocked a shot by Payton at the rim to help the Wolves hold on. Wiggins scored six points in the final five minutes.
TIP-INS
Magic: Orlando planned to stay in Minneapolis on the advice of the team sleep specialist and return home on Tuesday morning. ... Gordon played 28 minutes and scored 12 points after being listed as questionable with a sore right ankle. ... All five starters were in double figures, including Nikola Vucevic, who had 13 points and 11 boards. Watson had 18 points.
Timberwolves: Rubio also blocked his third shot of the season when he stuffed a layup by Payton in the third quarter. ... New University of Minnesota football coach P.J. Fleck watched the game courtside with his wife, Heather. ... Gorgui Dieng had a season-high 14 rebounds. ... Towns also had seven assists.
FOURNIER RETURNS
The French swingman missed eight games with a sore right foot, and the Magic went 2-6 without their leading scorer. Fournier came off the bench on Monday night and hit 4 of 11 shots.
UP NEXT
Magic: Orlando heads back home for a two-game stand that starts with a game against Indiana on Wednesday.
Timberwolves: Minnesota goes to Cleveland to face former star Kevin Love and the slumping Cavaliers on Wednesday.

Heat push streak to 8, top Nets 104-96
By TIM REYNOLDS

MIAMI (AP) -- It might still seem unrealistic to talk about Miami Heat playoff possibilities.
History says otherwise.
Goran Dragic scored 20 points, Dion Waiters added 19 and the Heat pushed the NBA's longest current winning streak to eight games by beating the woebegone Brooklyn Nets 104-96 on Monday night. The streak is the fourth-longest in the league so far this season, topped only by Golden State (12 games), Houston (10) and San Antonio (9).
"Stay humble. Stay hungry. Continue to keep working," Waiters said. "Get better day by day. Keep putting in the work and you see results ... and along the way have fun, just enjoy it."
Miami (19-30) occupies 12th place in the Eastern Conference, 4 1/2 games from the eighth and final playoff spot. But out of the last 80 teams that had winning streaks of at least eight games, 77 went on to make the playoffs - with New York in 2013-14, Portland in 2007-08 and Orlando in 2005-06 being the exceptions.
"We're not looking at standings right now," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. "We're concentrating on us."
James Johnson had 17, Rodney McGruder scored 13 and Hassan Whiteside added 12 for Miami. Waiters and Dragic combined to hand out 17 assists for the Heat, who took the lead for good with a 17-0 run late in the first half.
Bojan Bogdanovic scored 16 points for Brooklyn (9-39), which has lost six straight and 17 of its last 18. The Nets blew an 18-point lead at home against Miami last week, and had an 11-point lead late in the first half of this one.
Brook Lopez scored 14, while Trevor Booker and Isaiah Whitehead each had 13 for the Nets.
"We were physical," Lopez said. "I thought there were a lot of positives out there."
Miami outscored Brooklyn 33-12 from 3-point range.
"Give them credit," Nets coach Kenny Atkinson said. "They're on a good roll."
TIP-INS
Nets: Brooklyn has allowed 100 points in 45 of its 48 games, including the last 24. ... This was the Nets' only trip to Miami this season. ... The Nets now have 532 3-pointers, one more than in all of last season. ... Villanova ties: Nets guard Randy Foye chatted with Rollie Massimino, who was in attendance.
Heat: After losing records in October (1-2), November (5-10) and December (4-12), the Heat had a winning January (9-6). ... Tyler Johnson (shoulder) returned and scored three points in 20 minutes. ... The game was the 700th regular-season contest at AmericanAirlines Arena, where the Heat have played since Jan. 2, 2000.
WAITERS HONORED
Waiters was announced earlier Monday as the Eastern Conference's player of the week, after averaging 23.3 points as Miami went 4-0. He becomes the 12th player to win the award as a member of the Heat, and the first since Dwyane Wade - 52 weeks ago.
JANUARY TO FORGET
Brooklyn went 1-15 in January. That's the most losses ever for the Nets franchise in a month, breaking the mark of 14 set on four other occasions - most recently November 2009.
ORANGE NATION
A fan made a halfcourt shot to win a lifetime gym membership - and it proves how well things are going for Waiters right now. The shooter was none other than Brandon Reese , Waiters' roommate as a freshman at Syracuse. "That was Reese? Man, I haven't seen him in a couple years," Waiters said.

Florida teacher accused of putting student in headlock
LONGWOOD, Fla. (AP) — A central Florida teacher faces a child abuse charge after authorities say he put a high school student in a headlock and dragged him down some stairs.
Longwood police say 38-year-old Wilbert DelaCruz was arrested Monday.
Investigators tell local news outlets that DelaCruz put his arm around the student during an altercation on Friday at Lyman High School in Longwood.
Seminole County school district officials say DelaCruz is a social studies teacher who started as a substitute in 2003 and was hired full-time in 2004. He held several teaching positions at Oviedo, Lake Howell and Lyman high schools.
He remains on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal investigation.
Records show he was released from jail on a $5,000 bond. It's not clear whether he's hired a lawyer.

Deputies: Apparent murder-suicide in Palm Beach County
GREENACRES, Fla. (AP) — Authorities in South Florida are investigating what deputies believe was a murder-suicide.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that deputies found a woman dead inside a Greenacres home Monday night. No one else was inside the home, even though a man had called 911 to send help to the residence.
A short time later, Riviera Beach police said a man jumped to his death from the Blue Heron bridge into the water near Phil Foster Park.
Investigators believe the two cases are related. Neither the man nor the woman has been identified.

Money-time: Florida Gov. Scott to outline spending plans
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Starting what could become a contentious debate with state legislators, Gov. Rick Scott is going to announce his annual budget recommendations.
Scott plans to release details of his spending plan Tuesday during the annual legislative planning session hosted by The Associated Press. Senate President Joe Negron and House Speaker Richard Corcoran are also scheduled to appear.
The Florida Legislature will consider Scott's budget request during the session that starts in March.
Scott has already outlined some recommendations, including a push to slash taxes by $618 million. Scott maintains there is enough money to carry out his plans.
But Scott's optimistic outlook isn't being shared by Republican legislative leaders.
Corcoran maintains that the state's finances are being squeezed and that legislators need to cut the budget by at least $1 billion.

Vucevic, who also had five assists, keyed a late-second quarter surge that saw the Magic (19-30) close the first half on a 21-2 run to take the lead for good in snapping a three-game losing streak.
It was just Orlando's second win in the past 16 games against Toronto.
Kyle Lowry led the Raptors with 33 points, eight assists and five rebounds. Fellow All-Star DeMar DeRozan, Toronto's leading scorer, returned to the lineup after missing three games with a sprained right ankle and had 22 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
It was Toronto's sixth loss in the past seven games.
Lowry hit a 3-pointer with 5.2 seconds left to cut Orlando's lead to two, but Vucevic sank a pair of free throws to make it a four-point game before Lowry hit another 3 with just 0.5 seconds remaining.

The Magic led 83-78 going into the fourth quarter.
Orlando was up by as many as 11 points at the midpoint of the third quarter before the Raptors cut into it with an 11-5 run over a two-minute stretch. Toronto had a chance to tie the game in the final minute of the third but couldn't hit the shot.
Orlando's shooting cooled off in the third as the Magic hit 9 for 20 from the field. But the Raptors continued to struggle, hitting just 8 for 23 from the field in the period.
Jonas Valanciunas hit a foul shot with 6:20 to go in the half to give the Raptors a 49-39 edge. Orlando then scored 19 straight points with Vucevic leading the surge, hitting 3 for 3 from the field, including a pair from beyond the arc.

Governor proposes pay raise for Florida corrections officers
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — After years of refusing to give Florida corrections officers a pay raise, Gov. Rick Scott wants to spend $38 million to boost pay for officers in Florida's prison system.
Scott spokesman McKinley Lewis tells news outlets that the plan will be unveiled as part of Scott's recommended budget Tuesday. The proposal would result in salary increases for a majority of the state's 24,000 corrections and probations workers.
Salaries for entry-level corrections officers would rise by 8.5 percent, from about $31,000 to $33,500. Sergeants, lieutenants and captains would see a 10 percent increase.
The proposal must next receive the approval of state legislators, who in the past 10 years have increased corrections agency salaries only once, with a one-time bonus for the lowest paid officers.

Man, woman perish in Pensacola house fire
PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) — A man and a woman have been found dead inside a Pensacola home following a house fire.
The house had only light smoke coming from inside when firefighters arrived at the scene Sunday afternoon.
Authorities believe the fire began during the night and went unreported, burning out due to lack of oxygen. Firefighters found the two victims' bodies inside the home.
Media outlets report that the Florida State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire. A smoke detector was installed in the home, but it is unknown whether it was in working condition at the time of the fire.
Authorities have not released the names of the victims.

Florida woman in "warning shot" case free to help others
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — A Florida woman whose conviction sparked a change in the state's gun laws is now completely free and says she plans to run an organization to help victims of domestic violence caught up in the criminal justice system.
Marissa Alexander told The Florida Times-Union (http://bit.ly/2kBQfre) that she wants to help others because "from what I've been through I know a lot more about the system and how it fits together."
"I've been contained since 2011," Alexander said. "But I'm excited to have the chance to give back using whatever platform I have."
Alexander attracted national attention after she was sentenced in 2012 to 20 years in prison for firing a shot near her estranged husband during an altercation. She argued she had fired a "warning shot" and unsuccessfully tried to use Florida's "stand your ground" law as part of her defense.
Her husband denied abusing her and said she shot at him in anger after he insulted her former husband. Prosecutors insisted it wasn't a warning shot because it hit the wall behind Gray and not the ceiling.
Alexander's case became noticed because it was contrasted against what happened to George Zimmerman who was acquitted in the 2012 shooting death of Trayvon Martin after he said he shot an unarmed Martin in self-defense.
Alexander's conviction was thrown out on appeal and she reached a plea deal in 2014. Her case was cited by legislators when they altered Florida's mandatory sentencing law nearly three years ago.
Alexander was released from home detention this past week. She has begun the process of setting up the Marissa Alexander Justice Project which will not only focus on female victims of domestic violence but will be critical of minimum-mandatory sentences like the 20 years Alexander once faced after she was initially convicted.
She told the newspaper that her fame is still something she struggles with, rolling her eyes when a reporter tells her she's famous but also acknowledging the oddity that many people who've never met her are familiar with her case.
"The surreal moment for me was getting mail from Great Britain and Australia," Alexander said.

Couple ensures today's youth become lifelong learners
PALMETTO, Fla. (AP) — There is nothing quite like reading for Edie Bustle.
"You just can't beat reading," the former member of the Manatee County Public Library System Board of Trustees said Wednesday while sitting in her Palmetto home. "It takes you great places. You meet new people. You experience wonderful things, and it's all with the book held in your own hand."
For Edie Bustle and her husband Larry, reading is an important part of their lives — both volunteer in the community reading to children. In fact, former Manatee County Commissioner Larry Bustle says that in retirement, his occupation is reading.
"We both love to read," Edie Bustle said. "This was a wonderful way to pay back and see kids read as opposed to play games on the computer."
As a way to ensure more of today's youth become lifelong learners, the Bustles are hoping that the upcoming "An Evening with Nicholas Sparks" event, which they are co-chairing, will be a success. Proceeds from the Feb. 7 event at Neel Performing Arts Center benefit Manatee Library System's "I Am a Lifelong Learner" program.
"It's a great way to support the library system in Manatee County and I think we are both very supportive of the lifelong learning project that the library foundation and the library is promoting," Larry Bustle said.
With tickets still available for the Sparks event, there are some ticket promotions — a 2-for-1 ticket special and a $25 ticket promotion for educators as well as Manatee County high school and Manatee/Sarasota college students. For tickets, call 941-216-8746.
"The Library Foundation's fund-raising efforts for this event are aimed at improving literacy in Manatee County through excellent library service," said Susan Wilcox, foundation event chairwoman. "This year we are delighted to have the opportunity to offer a position of our seating to educators and to other literacy advocates in our community at a reduced rate. It is one small gesture to let these literacy partners and providers know how important they are and how much we appreciate their life's work."
The Sparks event is the third such program, which has previously brought authors Stephen King and John Grisham to town and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the county's library system.
"The money raised from this event is going to go into the lifelong learner program," Edie Bustle said. "We strongly support that, and reading is one of the most important things a child ever learns to do because it opens so many doors."
The library's "I Am a Lifelong Learner" literacy program "aims to improve literacy by targeting the area's youngest readers by providing a Lifelong Learner Campaign Coordinator to meet families at the point-of-need and offer outreach programs to develop literacy skills," a news release states.
The focus is getting students to read at grade level by third grade, Larry Bustle said.
"Prior to third grade, you are learning to read. After grade three, you are reading to learn," he said.
As a former commissioner, Larry Bustle said there is just not enough money to do all the things that are needed.
"That's going to go a long way to help lifelong learners," he said of the event.
Since the announcement that Sparks would be speaking at the event, the Bustles have been diving into his novels as well as watching "The Notebook."
On Wednesday morning, three of Sparks' books — "The Last Song," ''A Walk to Remember" and "Message in a Bottle" — were on the Bustles' coffee table.
"This one is another happy yet sad book," Edie Bustle said of "Message in a Bottle." ''I really like this one — and the ending was a surprise."
For the Bustles, it came as a surprise that they would be co-chairs of the event, which comes just after Larry Bustle finished his time in public service and Edie Bustle ended her time on the Library Board of Trustees.

No fries: Florida wants students to whip up healthy dishes
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam is looking for the state's best student chef.
Putnam wants high school students around the state to enter the "Fresh from Florida Student Chef Cook-Off." The deadline is Feb. 2.
Putnam says the goal is to encourage children to prepare healthy meals.
The contest rules require students to create an original recipe that includes one fresh fruit or vegetable grown in the state.
Finalists will be chosen to compete in five regional cook-offs which will be held in March and April. The regional winners will participate in a statewide cook-off at the Florida School Nutrition Association annual conference.
The ultimate winner will be invited to serve with a professional chef at one of the department's future events.

Florida park officials throw bash for state's hippo
HOMOSASSA, Fla. (AP) — A more than 6,000-pound hippo got a birthday bash courtesy of Florida park officials.
Visitors and employees at Homosassa Springs state park on Thursday celebrated the 57th birthday of Lu, the hippo, with two parties.
Students from several day care centers joined park staff in singing a birthday song for the hippo. Lu was also given a bread birthday cake made specifically for a hippo.
Lu, an African hippopotamus, was born at the San Diego Zoo in 1960 and has appeared in movies and television shows. He's been a fixture at Homosassa Springs since 1964 when the property was in private ownership.
Florida acquired the park site in 1989 and initially intended to move the hippo. But public support led state officials to allow the hippo to remain.

Goran Dragic leads Heat to 6th straight, 100-88 over Bulls
Associated Press
CHICAGO (AP) – Goran Dragic had 26 points and 11 assists, Willie Reed scored 20 points and Dion Waiters added 19 to lead the Miami Heat to their sixth straight win Friday night, a 100-88 victory over the bickering Chicago Bulls.
Dwyane Wade had 15 points to lead the Bulls, who began the day with a team meeting and ended it with a second straight frustrating loss.
Wade and Butler started the controversy when they questioned the desire of the team's younger players following a loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday. Rajon Rondo fired back a day later, criticizing Wade and Butler in an Instagram post.
All three players were fined, and Wade and Butler were held out of the starting lineup as punishment.
Butler was the first off bench and received a loud ovation from the United Center crowd when he checked in with 6:53 remaining in the first quarter. Wade also received a loud ovation when he entered 28 seconds later.
Rondo, though, was greeted by some boos when he checked in with 5:05 to go in the first.

2 CENTRAL FLORIDA STUDENTS ARRESTED IN SCHOOL SHOOTING PLOT
Sumter County Sheriff's officials said in a news release that the boys, ages 13 and 14, planned the attack at The Villages Charter Middle School for Friday. Deputies say rumors about a shooting began circulating Tuesday.
PROSECUTORS WANT TO TRY DEPUTY WHO SHOT MAN WITH AIR RIFLE
A circuit judge last year dismissed a manslaughter charge against Broward Sheriff's Office Deputy Peter Peraza under Florida's "Stand Your Ground" self-defense law. Peraza faced 30 years in prison if convicted. In the appeal released Friday, prosecutors say the judge ruled in error, and that there are numerous facts in the case that should be decided by a jury, not a judge.
GOVERNOR ALLOCATES $15M FOR EMERGENCY BEACH RESTORATION FOR HURRICANE MATTHEW
Gov. Rick Scott made the announcement Friday at Washington Oaks Gardens State Park in Flagler County. Scott spoke with reporters near dunes breached by the October storm. Scott said money from the state's Division of Emergency Management will fund restoration projects in Volusia, Flagler, Brevard and St. Johns counties.
CRASH KILLS WOMAN, INJURES VALET OUTSIDE RESORT
Authorities say an Illinois woman celebrating her 80th birthday died shortly after being struck by a car outside a southwest Florida resort. Carol Ryan of St. Charles, Illinois, died Wednesday at a Naples hospital. A valet who had been helping Ryan was also hospitalized but released a short time later.
GOVERNOR TO ROLL OUT HIS SPENDING PLAN
Gov. Rick Scott plans to release details of his spending plan on Tuesday during the annual legislative planning session hosted by The Associated Press. The Florida Legislature will consider Scott's budget request during the session that starts in March. The Republican governor has already outlined some recommendations. Scott this week called on legislators to slash taxes by $618 million this year.

Diana Nyad donates items from landmark Cuba-Florida swim
KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) — Marathon swimmer Diana Nyad has dedicated an exhibit at Key West's Custom House Museum, featuring items she wore during her landmark 2013 swim from Havana to Key West.
The installation premiered Friday. It includes the bathing suit, goggles and custom-designed jellyfish protection facemask Nyad used during the nearly 111-mile swim that took almost 53 hours.
Nyad donated the personal memorabilia to the Key West Art & Historical Society, which operates the museum, to recognize the support she received from Key West community members.
Nyad was 64 years old when she succeeded on her fifth attempt to complete the Florida Straits crossing. Landing on Key West's Smathers Beach on Labor Day, she became the first person ever to swim from Cuba to Florida without a shark cage.

Big Brother duo shoots three-pointers for charity
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — "Here you go! It's your turn," Chad Van Horn says, tossing the basketball to Desmond "Dez" Mitchell.
The 17-year-old catches it, focuses on the hoop ahead and shoots a three-point basket just before dusk at Holiday Park in Fort Lauderdale. They were on day five of their challenge to shoot three-pointers.
Van Horn, 32, and Mitchell have been meeting at the park this January, each time extending the number of three-pointers they have to hit before they can go home.
Their game plan: shoot three-point baskets that go with the day of the month. So on Jan. 1, it was one three-pointer, two on Jan. 2, and eventually, 31 on Jan. 31.
They don't always connect. The ball bounces off the rim with a clang. Some shots are too high or too wide. The thump thump thump of basketballs from other players thunder in the background as they watch Van Horn and Mitchell.
They hope the challenge will make them more fit, which is a resolution for 2017. They are also doing this as part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County Great Big Challenge. Volunteers with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America pick their sport or exercise — yoga, running, walking, weight training. They then create web pages, set up fund-raising goals and have their friends and families donate.
Van Horn and Mitchell's challenge is already a slam dank. Two weeks into it, they surpassed their goal of $1,000.
In the beginning, the pair accomplished their day's worth of shots in just a few minutes, finishing with a celebratory chest-bump. By now it's been taking up to an hour to complete their goal, shooting under the bright lights of the park at night.
"My lifelong record is 31 in a row but that's when I played every day when I was really good," said Van Horn, who played at Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh. "I am hoping Dez carries us through this."
"Or you can make 10 in a row and I'll make 10 in a row," jumped in Mitchell between shots one recent Thursday evening when their goal was just five three-pointers.
"That's a good point. It's a team effort so if I make 10 and you make 10, I guess I'll make 10 more. We might be here all day towards the end of the month," joked Van Horn, who was named Big Brother of the Year last year in Broward and again this year.
The two have known each other for about five years. Mitchell was 12. Van Horn, a Fort Lauderdale bankruptcy attorney, was looking to give back to the community after a coworker suggested he volunteer with the nonprofit organization. He believes they were paired up because they both lost their fathers at an early age.
"Dez was a little punk kid when I met him," Van Horn recalled with a smile. "Now he's my size. I'm 6-foot-2 and he's 5-feet-10-inches tall and he's growing every day. We synced immediately."
Although Mitchell was more into football at first, he's improved his basketball game with Van Horn's help.
"When we first met, he wasn't really a shooter and I said, 'Well, this isn't going to work out if you don't shoot threes because that's all I do,' " said Van Horn.
"Basketball was never my favorite sport. I am getting better at a sport that I don't play really well," said Mitchell, who lives with his mother in Fort Lauderdale. He has two older sisters, ages 26, and 22, and two younger brothers, ages 11 and 18 months.
Over the years, Van Horn and Mitchell have played video games at arcades, raced go-karts, hit baseballs and seen all the latest superhero movies. Getting behind the wheel is the next challenge. "I am still teaching him," Van Horn said.
Two years ago, Mitchell began working at Van Horn's law firm after school. Mitchell delivers files and makes copies and documents for clients and staffers. A junior at Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach, he also has a quiet place there to do homework. He wants to study criminal justice, or law, after he graduates.
"Most recently, Dez got all As and Bs on his report card, which is most important. As a reward, he is going to New York. I said if you get all As and Bs, where do you want to go? He's never been on a flight before so he wants to see the Big Apple and he wants to see snow, which is crazy, so we will probably go in February," said Van Horn.
When they learned about the fitness challenge, basketball naturally came into play.
"This time of year, everybody is focused on getting healthy, everybody is focusing on losing weight, including me. I am trying to eat healthy," said Van Horn. "It's about building healthy relationships. Desmond and I could sit at home and play video games (but) we'd rather be out here really competing."
"He's better than me. I tried to fight it," Mitchell confessed with a smile. Then, swish.

Marchessault scores PPG in OT, Panthers top Lightning 2-1
SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) Even with his mind on the baby due back home, James Reimer got the job done in an unexpected start.
Reimer stopped 31 shots, Jonathan Marchessault scored a power-play goal in overtime and the Florida Panthers beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 on Thursday night to snap a four-game losing streak.
Reimer missed the previous two games on the road to be home with his wife, April, as they expect their first child any day.
''You never know when it's going to come. You just want everyone, mom and baby, to be healthy. That's the main things you worry about,'' Reimer said. ''I figured that things are pretty safe at home . although maybe I should go check my cellphone.''
Reimer got the start after Roberto Luongo sustained a minor injury in warmups.
''It was probably good. He didn't have to think too much about the start until maybe a few hours before the game. He played outstanding,'' Panthers interim coach Tom Rowe said. ''(Luongo) got hurt this morning in warmup, preskate. Nothing major. It's all minor stuff. He'll be fine by the end of the All-Star break.''
Marchessault took a pass from Keith Yandle along the goal line to the left of the net and fired the puck past Andrei Vasilevskiy at 1:49 of overtime.
The Panthers went on the power play after Tyler Johnson was called for interference against Jason Demers.
''I made a bad play there. He tried to jump behind me and kind of just grabbed me,'' Johnson said.
Jussi Jokinen scored short-handed for the Panthers, who won for the first time in six games that went past regulation.
''It was huge. We didn't have the success we wanted in OT and in the shootout this year, but we came out strong,'' Marchessault said. ''It was a good overall game for us.''
Nikita Kucherov scored for Tampa Bay, and Vasilevskiy made 35 saves. The Lightning have lost four of five and went 2-2-2 on a road trip that began Jan. 16 in Los Angeles.
''We're extremely frustrated right now,'' coach Jon Cooper said. ''Let's be honest, that was a long road trip. It was so long we sat through two presidents.''
Jokinen gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Vincent Trocheck passed from the right circle across to Jokinen, who shot from below the left circle and into the net at 9:55 of the first. It was the fourth short-handed goal of the season for the Panthers.
The Lightning tied it less than two minutes later on a power-play goal by Kucherov, who one-timed a pass from Jonathan Drouin past Reimer at 11:33. Kucherov leads the Lightning with 19 goals.
NOTES: Panthers C Nick Bjugstad returned after missing nine games with a groin injury. Bjugstad, sidelined for the first five weeks of the season with a wrist injury sustained during the preseason, has played 22 games this season. ... D Alex Petrovic was back in the lineup after missing 33 games with an ankle injury. ... Lightning forward J.T. Brown returned after being out for seven games with an upper-body injury. ... D Jason Garrison was back in the lineup after missing two games due to illness. ... Before the game, Tampa Bay acquired defenseman Jonathan Racine and a sixth-round selection in the 2017 draft from the Montreal Canadiens for defenseman Nikita Nesterov.
