2 CENTRAL FLORIDA STUDENTS ARRESTED IN SCHOOL SHOOTING PLOT
Sumter County Sheriff's officials said in a news release that the boys, ages 13 and 14, planned the attack at The Villages Charter Middle School for Friday. Deputies say rumors about a shooting began circulating Tuesday.
PROSECUTORS WANT TO TRY DEPUTY WHO SHOT MAN WITH AIR RIFLE
A circuit judge last year dismissed a manslaughter charge against Broward Sheriff's Office Deputy Peter Peraza under Florida's "Stand Your Ground" self-defense law. Peraza faced 30 years in prison if convicted. In the appeal released Friday, prosecutors say the judge ruled in error, and that there are numerous facts in the case that should be decided by a jury, not a judge.
GOVERNOR ALLOCATES $15M FOR EMERGENCY BEACH RESTORATION FOR HURRICANE MATTHEW
Gov. Rick Scott made the announcement Friday at Washington Oaks Gardens State Park in Flagler County. Scott spoke with reporters near dunes breached by the October storm. Scott said money from the state's Division of Emergency Management will fund restoration projects in Volusia, Flagler, Brevard and St. Johns counties.
CRASH KILLS WOMAN, INJURES VALET OUTSIDE RESORT
Authorities say an Illinois woman celebrating her 80th birthday died shortly after being struck by a car outside a southwest Florida resort. Carol Ryan of St. Charles, Illinois, died Wednesday at a Naples hospital. A valet who had been helping Ryan was also hospitalized but released a short time later.
GOVERNOR TO ROLL OUT HIS SPENDING PLAN
Gov. Rick Scott plans to release details of his spending plan on Tuesday during the annual legislative planning session hosted by The Associated Press. The Florida Legislature will consider Scott's budget request during the session that starts in March. The Republican governor has already outlined some recommendations. Scott this week called on legislators to slash taxes by $618 million this year.
