OFFICIALS: TIPSTER GETS $10,000 FOR LOCATION OF FUGITIVES
An agency news release says the reward was presented Friday. The release says the tipster had just seen a Facebook post Feb. 7 about William Boyette and Mary Rice, as well as the vehicle they were driving. The tipster spotted the car and Rice at a convenience store and called authorities. Boyette and Rice were eventually surrounded by SWAT officers at a hotel in West Point, Georgia. Boyette killed himself and Rice surrendered to authorities.
FLORIDA SUPREME COURT REJECTS NUCLEAR PLANT EXPANSION
Justices in a brief-one page order on Friday rejected an appeal filed by Florida Power & Light. Last year, the 3rd District Court of Appeal in Miami reversed a 2014 decision by Gov. Rick Scott and the Cabinet to approve construction of two nuclear reactors by FPL at its Turkey Point plant near Homestead. The project, costing up to $18 billion, would add about 2,200 megawatts of electric power or enough to supply 750,000 homes.
FLORIDA GOV. RICK SCOTT SELECTED TO LEADERSHIP SPOT WITH GOP GOVERNORS
The organization announced Friday that Scott has been elected to the position by his fellow GOP governors. He takes the place of former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who resigned from her job after President Donald Trump named her ambassador to the United Nations.
FLORIDA US REP. CHARLIE CRIST SEEKS DIVORCE AFTER LESS THAN 9 YEARS
Crist spokesman Kevin Cate said the congressman filed papers Friday seeking to divorce his wife Carole, who he proposed to in 2008 after a 10-month romance. He was a Republican governor at the time. Their St. Petersburg wedding was a grand event with an exclusive guest list of political elite and celebrities.
TRIPADVISOR: 7 OF TOP 10 BEACHES ARE IN FLORIDA
TripAdvisor said Wednesday in a news release that the sand at Siesta Key outside Sarasota was the best rated beach in the nation. St. Pete Beach was number 3, followed by Clearwater Beach and Panama City Beach. Hollywood's beach in South Florida was ranked sixth, followed by Pensacola Beach and St. Augustine Beach near Jacksonville.
